February is full of Great Fun!

February is one of my favorite month to teach at Busy Bee. Our students are really taking off. We are seeing so much growth. We will be testing the the student to identify what they have learned so far this year. It takes Ms. Amy and I awhile to get through to all of the students so please be patient for your child's report. We can only test two to three students a day. This really helps us as teachers to know what we need to focus on at school and to prepare them for kindergarten. We want busy bee kids to be the best!

This month we will be going back to our guided reading program. We use the Starfall Program to teach. The books we use cover phonic sounds and word families. If you would like to support your student in this learning have them spend time on www.starfall.com. They can tell you what book they are reading and they can practice reading it online. They can even do activities to support their learning.

For math we will be introducing money. The students will learn the name of the coins and how much they are worth. When you are sitting in the car or they need something to do. Have them tell you the name of the coins and how they are worth. You can even have them count by 1's, 5's and 10's. We will be practicing in class.

For Social Studies we will be learning all about our community helpers. We will even get a visit from a police officer and take a field trip to the fire station and Chick a fil. Please see information that comes home.

We will have our 5th annual Valentine's Pizza Party on February 11th. Please send $2 for lunch that day. Please have your child bring 22 Valentines for the class. Please don't have them put their friends names on them but have them sign their own name. Almost everyone can write their name now, so this is great practice. It is okay to have different ones for boys and girls. Our mailboxes are different colors so it will be easy for them to deliver them.

Please feel free to call me if you have questions about your student. Sometimes it is really hard to talk after school and give a report, but we are always available after school by phone or stay after pick up. We are so grateful to the best students and parents.

The New Year!

We are so excited about our new year. All of our students have grown so much in just four short months. This month we will be focusing on word families and rhyming words in our learning centers. We will also be focusing on beginning sounds as we learn to write our upper and lowercase letters. On Thursday we will be focusing on math story problems and many of our students are working on adding and subtracting. This is so exciting!

During our special rotation we will be learning about snow and animals that live in the snow. We are also learning all about fairy tales. We have already started acting some of our stories out. We have some great Big Bad Wolves!

When Senor Kim comes on Fridays we will be learning greetings, numbers and story words! We are so glad to have such a great Spanish teacher! We will also be introduced to the piano. Ms. Amy is looking forward to our Snowball Olympics this year! I will make sure to take pictures.
